Ways you can volunteer your time
There are so many ways you can help your planet from your own home but if you want to do a little bit more why not do some volunteering?
Whether you're 13 or 30 I'll have things for you to do to help out the environment.
1. Volunteer at your community garden
Anyone can do gardening, and by all means work on your own garden when you're stuck at home but volunteering at your community garden is a great way to get to know your neighbours and help the environment. This is an all ages friendly way to plant a few trees and vegetables and help the planet.
Just search up community gardens near me
2. Beach cleanups
We all love going to the beach, but would we still love it if it was filled to the brim with plastic bags and cans of fanta. We enjoy the beach because of these lovely people that take time out of their day to make sure everything that's not sand and sea gets picked up and recycled. They save our marine life and our pretty holidays. Why not join them? Like before just google the ones that are nearest to you. Then all you have to do is go to the beach!
3.River and street cleanups
If you're not lucky enough to live in a coastal city then river and street cleanups are still options, don't worry. When dealing with river cleanups I would join a pre-formed group just so you can learn the right techniques but as for street cleanups you can form a group of your own. Just need a few bin bags and a litter pick-up stick and you will be good to go.
Here's a link that will help you with the necessary safety when picking up litter: litter cleanup
4. Volunteer at the marine conservation society
The marine conservation society is exactly the kind of structures volunteering service you need when starting out. They have loads of volunteering opportunities for you and are a great way to start off your volunteering adventure! They have beach cleanups, a national volunteering programme and an opportunity to be part of the UK's largest coastal marine citizen science project.
5. Volunteer at a national park
One of the best ways to volunteer is to visit the websites of national parks near you and sign up for their volunteering schemes. National parks are absolute treasures and utterly beautiful. They are the few havens in our country that haven't been touched by global warming, why do you think they're so popular? They are little snippets of what are world should like and they are gorgeous. Volunteering at one would be very fulfilling and a great way to preserve our last few fully green acres of land.
I hope this shows you how many opportunities there are out there to get your hands dirty and help save our planet.
Until next time, remember to be your own superhero.
